Underneath the Stars

While this word meant nothing during break, Friday now means freedom!!

This is a terrible picture with our eyes closed due to the flash, but it was the only thing to remember this trip by. We tied our flashlights to our hair so that we could use both hands to eat our food.

A few days ago, my roommate and I wanted to go stargazing because she’s never been to Skyline, but it was unfortunately very cloudy so we seized the chance tonight instead. With only snacks, water, a yoga mat (because neither of us had a picnic blanket), and two small flashlights in our hands, we ventured out to the McCormick Gap Overlook. Though it gradually became chilly and the roof of my car wasn’t the most comfortable place to lie down, we had lots of fun being silly and just talking about the most random things; I even got to see a shooting star and make a wish! It was just nice to get away and forget about the pressure to write my secondaries for a while, we promised to go again on this adventure more prepared.

Modified packing list for all you adventurers out there!

  • Sleeping bags (more the merrier!)
  • Blankets (because it gets pretty chilly at night)
  • Pillows
  • Flashlights
  • Water
  • Cup ramen noodles
  • Thermos filled with hot water
  • Chopsticks

We are going to be SO prepared next time! I just know it’s going to be great 🙂
